Solar Feasibility Study

In 2021 the City Council set an ambitious goal to reach 30% renewable energy by 2030. Since then, the staff has been working hard to develop a plan to achieve this goal, and we are proud to say that we have developed a method to reach 30% renewable energy by 2030.

Staff worked two ways to develop a plan, and the first step was to conduct a solar feasibility study on government buildings. We have evaluated 39 city facilities to determine their cost feasibility for solar. Of those 39 facilities, we selected five facilities with the highest rate of return and conducted a structural analysis of the facilities to determine if solar would be feasible. All five buildings returned with good reports, and we are slated to start installing solar in 2023.
