As of 2:45 p.m. Tuesday, the Pensacola area remains under a tropical storm warning and storm surge watch as Tropical Storm Gordon nears the northern Gulf Coast. A flash flood warning has been issued for Escambia County until 2:15 a.m. Wednesday.
Tropical storm conditions have already arrived in the warning areas. Pensacola can expect to experience gusty winds this afternoon and into the evening. Rainfall amounts may be between 3-5 inches, with localized higher amounts up to 6-10 inches possible.
At this time, no evacuations have been ordered for Escambia County. However, Escambia County Emergency Management is asking folks to stay off the roads as wind gusts and flash flooding may cause serious road hazards. They are also asking travelers to make their way to their evening destination by 4 p.m., as there is an increased possibility of potential bridge closures.
City offices will close at 3 p.m. and non-essential personnel will be sent home. Normal operations are expected to resume Wednesday.
The Pensacola International Airport will continue operations. Travelers are encouraged to check with their airlines to monitor flight status. You can also view flight updates by checking out Pensacola International Airport's live flights schedule.
City officials continue to monitor the weather and will aim to take necessary precautions. We would like to take this opportunity to remind residents to be mindful of impending weather forecasts and access to health and safety services.
