[ARCHIVED] City urges residents to make final preparations for Hurricane Michael

Pensacola has been placed under a hurricane warning by the National Weather Service (NWS) for Hurricane Michael.

The latest track has Michael reaching the Gulf Coast east of Panama City by Wednesday afternoon as a Category 3 storm.

Pensacola is under a storm surge watch. Pensacola can expect to receive heavy rainfall and experience life-threatening winds.


Escambia County has issued an evacuation order for Zone A as of 12 p.m. October 9. Zone A includes Pensacola Beach, Perdido Key and low-lying areas.

Several shelters have been opened including the one for the general population at Pensacola Bay Center at 201 E Gregory Street. For a complete list, visit Escambia County’s website.
