Saturday, November 3, 2018 was a huge day of service for the student body at Pensacola Christian College. Several City of Pensacola parks benefited from this day of giving back to the community.
Over 1,000 students from PCC spread out all over the Pensacola community helping neighborhoods and organizations meet some very challenging needs which included clean up efforts and landscaping in 16 city parks.
“Preserving our local natural resources is contagious. Seeing young community members taking initiative to clean up other’s litter will help foster a sense of ownership to our precious amenities. Hopefully this enthusiasm will spark a movement of environmental awareness and the individual responsibility needed to make a difference on an even bigger scale,” said Paul Pipes, Outdoor Pursuits and Volunteer Coordinator.
The students began their work at 9:00 a.m. Saturday morning and most projects were finished by noon because of the large number of students that were spread out among the various projects. Sixteen city parks and properties benefited directly from the volunteerism with students performing a variety of tasks ranging from picking up litter and limb debris to painting over graffiti and heavy landscaping. The City of Pensacola Parks and Recreation Department is very thankful for the students and faculty involved in Serve Pensacola Day.

Andalusia Square – minor landscaping, litter pick-up
Bayview Park & Senior Center grounds – Litter/debris pick-up
Chimney Park – litter/debris pick-up, removing undergrowth along south fence, weeding
City Hall (outside city Council Chambers) – litter pick-up
Community Maritime Park – litter pick-up
Fricker Resource Center – litter pick-up
Granada Square – litter pic-kup
Hitzman Optimist Park – litter/debris pick-up
Lions Park – litter/debris pick-up
Miraflores Park – heavy landscaping around Boy Scout building and monument, removal of invasive plants, litter/debris pick-up
Martin Luther King Jr. Plaza – litter pick-up
Sanders Beach Park – liter pick-up along shoreline and on park grounds
Springdale Park – litter/debris pick-up
Wayside Park – litter/debris pick-up
17th Avenue Boat Launch – minor landscaping, litter pick-up
17th Avenue Stormwater Park – litter pick-up, painting over graffiti
