Join us for a Memorial Day Concert Honoring Fallen Heroes Featuring Pearl Harbor Survivor Joining the Guinness Record Book and Pensacola's Mayor
Pensacola resident and Pearl Harbor Survivor, Frank Emond, will join the record books on May 27, 2019 as the oldest living conductor. Frank Emond will conduct the Pensacola Civic Band at the 4th Annual Pensacola Memorial Day concert. This event, sponsored together by the Pensacola Civic Band and the City of Pensacola, is held annually at the Hunter Amphitheater at Community Maritime Park. This free concert, starting at 5:00pm, honors and reflects the bravery and sacrifice of American veterans and members of the U.S. Armed Services.
This concert is an excellent way for area residents, families, and friends to continue the Memorial Day celebration and have the opportunity to honor the men and women who have served in the military to maintain our freedom.
The Memorial Day program directed by Pensacola Civic Band director, Don Snowden, will entertain the audience with a number of patriotic selections that reflect on the sacrifices throughout our nation’s history. Frank Emond, who will have just celebrated his 101st birthday, will narrate his Pearl Harbor experience while the Pensacola Civic Band plays Jay Bocook’s “At Dawn They Slept.” Then Mr. Emond, at 101 and 6 days, will conduct the band in Sousa’s “The Stars and Stripes Forever” setting a Guinness World Record as the oldest living conductor. Singer, Holly Shelton, joins the band as she performs the American classic “God Bless the U.S.A.”
The Pensacola Civic Band is excited to have Pensacola City Mayor, Grover Robinson IV, perform this year in Harold Walters piece for narrator and band “Duty, Honor, Country.”
“We are here to honor the men and women and their families who gave and sacrificed for our freedoms. They have earned our lasting gratitude. I am excited to share in this experience with our entire Pensacola community,” says Mayor Robinson.
This concert is made possible by the generous partnerships of the Pensacola Civic Band, The City of Pensacola Parks and Recreation, Community Maritime Park, and Pensacola State College. This year’s concert is also a donation location for Manna. Learn more at www.mannahelps.org.
