July is Park and Recreation Month and we’re celebrating by highlighting all the fun and games Play Pensacola Parks and Recreation has to offer!
The City of Pensacola Parks and Recreation is Game On for Park and Recreation Month
Get ready to get in the game this July with the City of Pensacola Parks and Recreation and the National Recreation and Park Association (NRPA).
Since 1985, America has celebrated July as the nation’s official Park and Recreation Month. Created by NRPA, Park and Recreation Month specifically highlights the vital and powerful role local parks and recreation, such as the City of Pensacola Parks and Recreation, play in conservation, health and wellness, and social equity efforts in communities all across the country.
This year, it’s all about highlighting the fun, games and exciting offerings at your local parks and recreation centers. From providing special events to exciting sports leagues and everything in between, the City of Pensacola Parks and Recreation has a wide variety of programs that are not only fun, but they also bring the community together. NRPA and the City of Pensacola Parks and Recreation are encouraging everyone to get out there and get in the game in their own way at their local parks and community resource centers.
In Pensacola, you can celebrate Park and Recreation Month by participating in a summer camp, going swimming, joining a card or board game with seniors, have a picnic in the park, or attending a free movie or concert with the family.
“July is the perfect time to highlight all of the benefits parks and recreation provides right here in Pensacola,” said Brian Cooper, Parks and Recreation Director. Our local parks and recreation programs directly contribute to reduced obesity rates, an improved ecosystem and increased property values.”
The City of Pensacola Parks and Recreation is leading initiatives and providing opportunities for people of all ages to achieve healthier lifestyles, promote and understand nature and conservation as well as bringing the community closer through a variety of programs and services. In fact in the City of Pensacola 97% of city residents live within a half mile, or 10-minute walk, to a park and recreation facility.
NRPA also encourages everyone that supports parks and recreation to share how they are Game On for parks and recreation with the hashtag #GameOnJuly. For more information about Park and Recreation month, visit www.nrpa.org/July.
