[ARCHIVED] Pensacola Featured in Where to Retire Magazine

Pensacola, FL, has been selected a top retirement destination by Where to Retire, the only magazine in America geared toward helping people with retirement relocation decisions. Pensacola is profiled in a feature titled “8 Tax-Friendly Towns” in the January/February 2017 issue, available nationwide on Dec. 13.

Where to Retire Editor Annette Fuller said readers look forward to the annual tax-friendly towns feature. “Thousands of cities across the United States are attractive to retirees, but the number gets smaller when only those with light taxation are considered,” Fuller said. “Our staff evaluated taxes on everything from property to purchases to Social Security, and we narrowed the list down to eight towns, including Pensacola, that are easy on taxation yet still offer amenities important to retirees. Cultural and entertainment opportunities, temperate climates, continuing education, excellent health care and outdoor adventures with breathtaking vistas don’t have to be sacrificed for a low tax rate.”

Each year, 700,000 Americans relocate to new towns to retire. Generally, relocating retirees are healthier, better educated and more affluent than those who choose to not relocate. They bring significant economic benefits to their new states and hometowns. Nationally, two dozen states and hundreds of towns seek to attract retirees as a source of economic development.

Where to Retire magazine, launched in 1992 with the goal of helping its readers find the ideal place to retire, is published six times a year. The magazine covers the best retirement regions, towns and master-planned communities, and has a national circulation of 200,000. The magazine is sold on various newsstands and at Barnes & Noble bookstores. A one-year subscription to Where to Retire is $18 (a 49 percent savings from the newsstand price).
