Street resurfacing and natural gas infrastructure update
Rain this week disrupted the milling and paving schedule in the city’s street resurfacing program and crews will continue this week's schedule into next week. Nighttime work is again planned for Palafox Street.
Here is the current downtown schedule for Sunday, June 18 through Wednesday, June 21:
Sun., June 18:
- Main Street to Garden Street.
- Palafox/Chase intersection.
- Palafox/Gregory intersection.
Mon., June 19:
- Palafox Place to Main Street (begin)
Tues., June 20:
- Garden Street to West Jackson Street (begin)
- Palafox Place to Main Street (complete)
Wed., June 21:
- Garden Street to West Jackson Street (complete)
The work is scheduled for nighttime hours to minimize impacts for drivers and businesses. The schedule is weather-dependent, and may be revised in the event of inclement weather. Cars parked on the street must be removed before work can begin. Any vehicles left on the street will be subject to relocation.
More information on the street resurfacing program is available by contacting the city’s engineering consultant, Atkins, Inc., (850) 380-9188.
The rain also affected crews working to replace cast-iron gas mains with new medium-density polyethylene pipes. Some work was accomplished in the program this week, however rain kept them from finishing these areas. Crews will return to the replacement activities next week. More information on the program is available by calling Pensacola Energy, (850) 474-5300.
