Street resurfacing update
The downtown street resurfacing schedule this week includes night work on both Palafox and Main Streets, along with daytime work in the central portion of the city.
Crews began Sunday evening, July 9 to complete paving on the north end of Palafox Street. Once completed, crews will work during nighttime hours to complete the southern end of the street. From that point, Main Street will see five nights of milling and resurfacing work.
To maintain traffic flow on Main Street the contractor will mill and resurface one lane at a time. Traffic flagmen will be deployed to safely direct drivers through the work zone. Two-way traffic on Main Street will be maintained at all times, but drivers should allow additional time to reach their destinations and exercise appropriate caution when traveling through the construction zone.
In the central part of the city daytime milling and resurfacing work is planned for the following streets:
- West Hernandez Street, from North A Street to the city limits.
- Mallory Street, from North Palafox to A Street.
- West Blount Street, from North A to North H Street.
- West Lakeview Street, from North E Street to the city limits.
The milling and resurfacing schedule is weather-dependent, and work may be postponed and re-scheduled in the event of inclement weather.
Residents and property owners are reminded that cars parked on the street must be removed so that street resurfacing work can begin. Vehicles left on the street will be subject to relocation.
Construction personnel are going door-to-door 24-48 hours in advance of work to remind property owners of the parking restrictions.
