Street Resurfacing and Natural Gas Improvements

Street paving crews will be at work this week in the citywide street resurfacing program. Drivers may encounter increased congestion and temporary lane closures on the following streets:

  • East Strong Street, between North 11th and North 16th Avenue.
  • East Gonzalez Street, between North 11th and North 19th Avenue.
  • North 13th Avenue, between East Gadsden and East DeSoto Street.
  • North 14th Avenue, between East Cervantes and East Blount Street.

The two-year program is milling and resurfacing approximately 1,800-blocks, or 119-miles, of streets and roadways throughout Pensacola. Work in the program is slated to conclude later this year.

Vehicles must be removed from the street before work can begin. Cars left on the city-owned right-of-way will be subject to relocation.

Meantime, Pensacola Energy crews will continue work to replace more than 75-miles of obsolete, cast-iron natural gas lines with new, polyethylene pipes. The natural gas work will take place primarily off the roadway, but vehicles parked on the street must be removed before work begins. The natural gas main replacement program is slated for completion early next year.

All planned construction activities are weather-dependent. Work may be postponed, delayed, or re-scheduled in the event of rain, cold, windy or other inclement conditions.

More information on the street resurfacing program is available by calling the city’s information line, (850) 380-9188. Questions about the natural gas distribution system upgrades should be referred to Pensacola Energy, (850) 474-5300.
